WHY FISHING ETHICS? 
Flyfish Alaska realizes it is essential to the preservation of our environmental resources to stop and think about our impact...for the future of our fisheries. Where will these rivers be in ten or twenty or forty years? That depends on how we interact with them now. We are committed to protecting the fishery resources through the use of catch and release fishing methods. We encourage our clients and all other sportfishers to consider doing the same...for the future of our fisheries. The changes in the fishery resources throughout Alaska (as well as world-wide) has prompted a need for change in our collective approach to sportfishing. Flyfish Alaska strives to be a leader in this series of essential changes. We believe we can fly fish these resources in a way that has minimal impact and produces a sustainable long term sportfishing scenario. It is our belief that we can do this without sacrificing the greatest fly fishing opportunities to you, while giving you the trip of a lifetime... WHY CATCH AND RELEASE, FLY FISHING ONLY? An alternative method that helps maintain our fish species populations is to carefully release fish immediately after being caught and revived. Flyfish Alaska strives to be a leader in catch and release methods in the Alaskan sportfishing scene. We teach and strongly encourage proper C & R methods for all species on our trips. Catch and Release is frequently required by law for all resident species on the rivers we fish. By using single hook flies, with barbs pinched, fly fishing is one more way to lower the impact on the fish we pursue. When we asked one recent client, a longtime Alaska resident, why he had asked to fish this particular river, he said it was because the other ones he used to fish were "fished out." This is exactly what we're trying to avoid. |
