FLYFISH ALASKA!

Rainbow Trout - Often, the preferred species amongst flyfishers. Spectacular fighter and acrobatic jumper. Can be very abundant and large (18"-27" average size), depending on time of year and river conditions. Outstanding sportfish on a flyrod. Leopard Rainbows found in the western Alaska rivers that we fish. Rainbow Trout
Dolly Varden/Arctic Char - A beautiful species that ranges in color from crimson red to deep orange to pale pink and silver blue. The two species are confusingly similar - so much so that they're often considered the same species. Local scientists make the species distinction by distribution. Those in the west are generally considered Arctic Char and those in central Alaska being Dolly Varden. Dolly Varden
Arctic Grayling - A favorite with dry fly fishers. These aggressive fighters are famous for leaping completely out of the water to pounce down on a dry fly. The rivers we visit have some of the largest (20" range) and most abundant populations of Grayling throughout Alaska. Arctic Grayling
King Salmon (Chinook) - The ultimate fly rod challenge. Average size 25-50 lbs. To simulate catching a King Salmon at home, tie your fly line to a car bumper and have a friend drive away. Challenge one with light tackle for an even greater test of your flyfishing skills. King Salmon
Red Salmon (Sockeye) - Tremendously abundant during its peak run period, the Sockeye is a powerful and arm burning catch. Some of the rivers we fish get runs in the millions! Red Salmon
Silver Salmon (Coho) - One of the finer species of salmon to catch on a fly. Uniquely aggressive and easily spooked, Silvers can test even the most experienced flyfisher. One recent client compared the pursuit of Silvers to that of Bonefishing the flats of Belize. On rare occasions, they can be taken on a dry fly known as a Pink Pollywog. Silver Salmon
Chum Salmon (Dog) - Often overlooked, the Chum Salmon is an excellent sportfish on a flyrod. Imagine finessing a 12-14lb. powerful fish into a vicious, frenzied attack from the bottom of a deep hole. Chum Salmon
Pink Salmon (Humpy) - Every even numbered year, the Pinks return in droves to fill the rivers and streams with tremendous biomass. Occasionally pursued as a sportfish, they more often serve the flyfisher best by supplying the Rainbows and Dollies/Char with an abundant supply of food in the form of eggs and later flesh.
